Oxalis tetraphylla (deppei) The Original Lucky Shamrock live potted plant
Oxalis species, also known as wood sorrel, lucky shamrock plant, and false shamrock are largely native to Africa and South America, though there are a number of species native to North America, including Montana. These plants have between three and ten clover-like leaves with some that can fold closed at night like little butterflies. Many varieties also move with their light source. Many oxalis species make good houseplants due to their shade tolerance and ease of growing in containers, and are prized for their beautiful and interesting foliage and belief to bring good luck. Some varieties are tougher to grower error than others.
Oxalis tetraphylla (syn. deppei) is an alluring variety that has four heart-shaped emerald green leaves featuring a fun dark squiggly border around the center, with small pretty bell-shaped flowers in the spring. Oxalis tetraphylla grows stems of 12-20" that bend and move with their light source, expect our plants to be on the larger side. They are best displayed hanging or draping as demonstrated in the pictures of the single. For fuller and bushier looking plantings plant multiples in the same pot. This variety prefers brighter light than other varieties. Oxalis tetraphylla likes some humidity, tolerates a range of humidity well, and makes a lovely companion plant for other medium light houseplants such as some Inch plants and coleus. This species grows best when allowed to go dormant for a short period of time during the winter and may go dormant in the summer.
This is a houseplant difficulty level 1 plant; beginner difficulty, easy care and forgiving of most errors.
This listing is for single plants in 2.5 inch nursery pots, triple plants in 3.5" round nursery pots, and quintuple plants in 4.5" round hanging baskets with saucers. Expect 3-8 stems per plant. Receipt and care guides included. Plants are certified Montana Grown.
