Oxalis triangularis "Mijke" 2.5" pot
Oxalis species, also known as wood sorrel, lucky shamrock plant, and false shamrock are largely native to Africa and South America, though there are a number of species native to North America, including Montana. These plants have between three and ten clover-like leaves that fold closed at night. Many oxalis species make good houseplants due to their shade tolerance and ease of growing in containers, and are prized for their beautiful and interesting foliage and belief to bring good luck. Some varieties are tougher to grower error than others.
Oxalis triangularis "Mijke" is a brilliant variety that has little to no black edging on the maroon red to burgundy purple leaves, with small insignificant white bell-shaped flowers in the spring. Mijke grows about six inches in height, but can get to be up to ten inches tall. For fuller bushy looking plantings plant multiples in the same pot. This variety is tolerant of shade, but shows its brightest color with bright indirect or filtered light. Oxalis triangularis likes some humidity, tolerates a range of humidity well, and makes a lovely companion plant for other low light houseplants such as begonias and Inch plants. This species grows best when allowed to go dormant for a short period of time during the winter.
This is a houseplant difficulty level 1 plant; beginner difficulty, easy care and forgiving of most errors.
This listing is for single plants in 2.5 inch round nursery pots. Expect this variety to grow 2-5 leaves per plant. Receipt and care guide included. All plants are certified Montana Grown.
