Oxalis tetraphylla "Iron Cross" Lucky Shamrock Plant 2.5" nursery pot
Oxalis species, also known as wood sorrel, lucky shamrock plant, and false shamrock are largely native to Africa and South America, though there are a number of species native to North America, including Montana. These plants have between three and ten clover-like leaves that fold closed at night like little butterflies, and many varieties also move with their light source. Many oxalis species make good houseplants due to their shade tolerance and ease of growing in containers, and are prized for their beautiful and interesting foliage and belief to bring good luck. Some varieties are tougher to grower error than others.
Oxalis tetraphylla "Iron Cross" is an eye-catching variety that has four heart-shaped shaped leaves with dark maroon cross-shaped centers surrounded by kelly green edges, with small rosy pink bell-shaped flowers in the spring. Iron Cross Oxalis grows stems of 12-20" that bend and move with their light source, expect our plants to be on the taller side. For fuller bushy looking plantings plant multiples in the same pot. This variety prefers brighter light than other varieties. Oxalis tetraphylla likes some humidity, tolerates a range of humidity well, and makes a lovely companion plant for other medium light houseplants such as some caladium and coleus. This species grows best when allowed to go dormant for a short period of time during the winter.
This is a houseplant difficulty level 2 plant; Moderate, fairly easy care and forgiving of small to medium error.
This listing is for single plants in 2.5 inch nursery pots. Expect 3-8 stems per plant, on the longer side. Receipt and care guides included. All plants are certified Montana Grown.
